Sad to share with you, for anyone who is unaware:  From: Caroline Chambers              As most of you are aware, my father, Charles Baxley, passed away on March 30, 2024.  His passing was a great loss for many different communities across the state, from his clients to students, to pilots, and to the history community.  While I expect most of you know who to turn to for your various needs as dad had been stepping back from his public life for a few years, I did want to share some resources to make sure everyone is aware.  Baxley, Wells & Benson continues their services in Lugoff, SC and can refer you to other attorneys if needed.    The history research, including the online magazine Southern Campaigns of the American Revolution, is now part of the South Carolina American Revolutionary War Trust. There were a handful of articles still in the works at the time of his passing that will be published on the site. If you want to stay in the loop about this and other Revolutionary War history research, sign up for SCART’s newsletter on their website.  The Kershaw County Education Foundation does not have a website, but if you are looking for information about their scholarships, please reach out to Wesley Herndon and the KCEF at PO Box 10, Lugoff, SC 29078.  Charles’ email account is unmonitored, so if you have any other questions, please feel free to email me at bonniec.chambers@gmail.com. The family wishes to thank everyone again for their love, support and help during Charles’ illness and passing.    Caroline Chambers

          2013-2017,              2018-2022 .                        Photos from our past:

Ed reminds of this quote by John Adams, who on the first anniversary of the document he helped to edit – The Declaration of Independence, wrote the following:  Posterity! You will never know how much it cost the present generation to preserve your freedom! I hope you will make good use of it.. If you do not, I shall repent it in heaven that I ever took half the pains to preserve it.

Another favorite quote comes from Ben Franklin as he was being carried by prisoners in his sedan chair back to his home after the conclusion of the Constitutional Convention of 1787. Enroute he was stopped on the street by a female passerby who asked “so Dr Franklin what have you given us?” The good Dr simply replied A republic if you can keep it.
